Louis Vuitton - SS26

By Allyson Shiffman

Set to the lyrics of 'This Must Be the Place' by Talking Heads, Louis Vuitton’s spring/summer 2026 collection explores the intimate decadence of dressing up and staying in

Though the term ROMO (relief of missing out) only recently entered the zeitgeist by way of Cillian Murphy, the desire to simply stay in long predates that. But then again, if, like Anne of Austria, Queen of France, the mother of Louis XIV, you lived in a decadent summer apartment now claimed by musée du Louvre, there would be little reason to go anywhere. These extraordinary quarters, which are currently closed to the public due to renovations, were the backdrop to Louis Vuitton’s spring/summer 2026 collection. Though these are the sort of looks that beg to be seen, they instead evoke those private moments at home; the pleasurable indulgence of dressing to the nines and simply swanning around.

Just as this is no ordinary setting, this is no ordinary indoor wardrobe. Rather, this is creative director Nicolas Ghesquière’s alluring fantasy of the hanging-at-home woman. Striped long johns are reimagined in a clingy off-the-shoulder silhouette, a technical panelled skirt nodding to a sort of futuristic duvet. A soft – and light as a feather – sharp-shouldered coat, tied at the waist appears as a street-wise bathrobe. Then there are the sleep dresses, slips structured with boning and cascading to the floor in gentle dusty hues or stiff silk shifts with elegant folkloric detailing or fur trim. The entire offering is grounded by flats: ornate slippers and cosy house boots, all the better for drifting around whilst not scuffing the floors.

To set the mood, French scenographer and interior designer Marie-Anne Derville imagined the former residence as a contemporary apartment, outfitting the impressive space with art and furnishings that span decades; Art Deco seats by Michel Dufet from the 1930s, 19th century sculpture by Pierre-Adrien Dalpayrat, contemporary artworks by Robert Wilson. And then came the soundtrack: Talking Heads stay-home anthem “This Must Be the Place”, read in the distinctive voice of Cate Blanchett.

If this is what home looks like, home is where we want to be.
