Kim Cattrall swaps ‘Pillow Talk’ for ‘Naughty Talk’ in Charlotte Tilbury’s new campaign. Releasing a limited edition collection in kitsch-but-cute vintage-inspired packaging, we put Tilbury’s latest innovations to the test
Apparently, one of Charlotte Tilbury’s iconic Pillow Talk products fly off the shelf every three seconds. It’s easy to understand why. The universally flattering range of romantic shades have been a coveted celebrity favourite, a red carpet mainstay, and the back-bone of bridal makeup for more than a decade. And now, we’re introduced to the original shade’s “naughty little sister,” as Tilbury herself has dubbed it – Naughty Talk. Better yet, the new limited edition launch is fronted by Kim Cattrall, none other than our favourite ‘naughty’ Sex and the City character Samantha.
Cattrall is the perfect face for the campaign. “She exudes so much confidence and empowerment, which makes her the perfect Pillow Talk beauty muse,” says Tilbury. “She truly embodies that powerful self-love that this campaign celebrates and really brings the magic of pillow talk to life.” In the accompanying behind the scenes video, Cattrall can be seen lounging on pink satin sheets in a vintage night gown and getting behind the wheel of a Barbie-coded cabriolet. “Kim is so much fun and has the most amazing sense of humour – she had everyone laughing all day on set,” shares Tilbury. She continues, explaining how it was an ”incredibly intuitive” partnership. “Kim has always loved the brand and she has always used and adored Pillow Talk. She tells me that Pillow Talk makes her feel fresh, pretty blurred and confident,” notes Tilbury.

In 2013, Tilbury was on the mission to develop a universally flattering shade for lips that mimic the natural rosy tones “some of us are blessed with”. “Since the start of my career I have been studying the beautifying effects of love on the face, like the way blood rushes to your cheeks and lips when you fall in love, how kissing causes a rush of endorphins to enhance the look of lips, making your pout look even more kissable,” says Tilbury. Now, with the latest addition to the Pillow Talk universe (the new limited-edition Pillow Talk Beauty Soulmates collection) Tilbury has bottled this “look of love”
First, there are the Pillow Talk Love Effect lipsticks in the brand’s iconic matte ‘K.I.S.S.I.N.G’ formulation: Dream Talk, Love Talk, the aforementioned Naughty Talk and Kiss Talk. Do you want the look of a you-but-better naked lip? You need Naughty Talk. “It is Pillow Talk’s naughty little sister,” says Tilbury. For that fresh, natural, just-kissed look, Tilbury implores us to try Kiss Talk. “It is inspired by the way that kissing can send a rush of blood to lips, making them look fresh, fuller and healthy,” she says. Dream Talk, on the other hand, bottles “those dizzy days, when your head is in the clouds. When you’re daydreaming and biting your lips.” Finally, if you want to look like you’ve been kissing all night, Love Talk is a juicy-looking strawberry red to mimic the most “deliciously kissable lips”. “It’s like I have given everyone an entire beauty wardrobe of lovers to choose from,” exclaims Tilbury.

For this launch, she’s also combined two of her best selling products in one heart-shaped package. On one side of this powder-blush duo palette, the iconic Airbrush Flawless Finish powder, this time infused with my new Colour Correcting Pigment Technology. On the other, Tilbury’s Pillow Talk Love Blush in either a pink or peach. “It unites my two best-selling franchises, darling,” she exclaims. In fact, celebrities have already tried this brand new “colour and texture revolution” as Tilbury calls it. “Demi Moore wore it to the Oscars and she said she could not believe how blurred and lifted she looked” says Tilbury. Lindsay Lohan is another fan, whose “favourite hack is to take the brightening powder and blush and softly diffuse it over the cheekbones where the blusher and powder meet, and over the bridge of the nose for the most seamless, soft-focused, dreamy, radiant, lit-from-within effect” according to Tilbury. “This was her look for the Oscars parties.”

Now, we're all for celebrity endorsements and cult-classified products, but should you rush to stores for these limited-edition launches? I recently previewed Charlotte Tilbury’s newest releases on a sunny press trip to London, where I experienced that covetable 'Tilbury Glow' firsthand. Now, to call such a limited shade range "universal" may raise an eyebrow or two, yet – somehow – these products seamlessly complemented not only my own Nordic skin but also the diverse complexions of press colleagues gathered at the brand's pink Pillow Talk room in Covent Garden.
The powder effortlessly swept away unwanted shine and texture, instantly brightening and softening the look of sleep-deprived eyes. Remarkably, even my naturally dry skin – further dehydrated by a moisture-sapping airplane ride – was left smooth and flawless. As for the lipsticks, there's a reason Tilbury's formula is famous: the new-generation matte lipstick is long-lasting, hydrating, and (almost) transfer proof, perfect whether you're facing long office hours or a hot date with plenty of kissing potential.
One thing is for certain: The new Pillow Talk Beauty Soulmates collection is one to fall in love with. After all, as Tilbury proclaims: “Whatever your love language, darling, the Pillow Talk love effect is for everyone.”
