Jonas and Julius Bohlin share more than a surname – they have a similar approach to their creative work. Jonas is one of Sweden’s most celebrated interior architects and designers, having made his name with his 1981 graduation project, the ‘Concrete Chair’. His son Julius is a photographer whose eponymous studio creates imagery across art and fashion. We meet the father-son duo to examine their shared creative DNA
Jonas Bohlin: Well, this is interesting…I’ve been interviewed 6,000 times – but never by my son.
Julius Bohlin: How do you feel the [Vogue Scandinavia] shoot went?
Jonas: Well, you worked…
Julius: And you made spaghetti bolognese for the whole team!
Jonas: The food turned out alright, I think. I like your concept – what inspired you?
Julius: It’s based on the game Musical Chairs, which I see as a metaphor for life: we run around, seize the spots we can get, and one by one, drop out. It’s a serious matter, but also a game. Plus it’s a way to view our shared style, blending the playful and the poetic.
