Princess Madeleine, under her private name Madeleine Bernadotte, is behind a new animated children’s series coming to SkyShowtime. Here’s everything we know so far about Hidden Islands

Princess Madeleine’s resume is rather stacked: competitive show-jumper, philanthropist, children’s author and wellness founder (she launched her skincare brand, MinLen, last autumn). Now she is adding one more line item to her ever-expanding CV: television creator. Today, SkyShowtime announced that the Princess, under her private name Madeleine Bernadotte is behind the network’s debut animated series, Hidden Islands. A collaboration between Princess Madeleine and Karini Gustafson-Teixeira, the series will be available to stream later this year.

Like so many creative pursuits, Hidden Islands was born of Covid lockdown. “Karini Gustafson-Teixeira and I began developing this project during Covid, inspired by our shared love of nature, children and storytelling,” says Princess Madeleine. “Our aim was to create an animated story that would spark a sense of adventure while also conveying important lessons about sustainability, survival and caring for the planet.” Though this is Princess Madeleine and Gustafson-Teixeira’s first on-screen project, the duo previously co-wrote the 2019 children’s book Stella and the Secret.

Comprised of 20 seven-minute episodes, Hidden Islands will follow three children (Princess Madeleine has three children – coincidence?) as they explore a series of islands (very archipelago-coded) that hold extraordinary secrets. What secrets might they be? You’ll have to tune in to find out. As Princess Madeleine notes, “ It is wonderful to see the story now being brought to so many children”.
