The 2025 Eurovision fever is peaking, with the iconic song contest’s hotly anticipated finals taking place tomorrow. Ahead of the grand finale, Vogue Scandinavia catches up with Finland’s act for the spectacle, who clinched her spot with a killer performance at the semi-finals. Read on as Vikman shares how she prepared for the performance of her dreams
Erika Vikman logs onto our Zoom call from her minimalist, neutral-toned home, fresh-faced and makeup brushes in hand. “I thought that while we’re talking, I could do my makeup for the next thing,” she explains. “But I completely forgot that, of course, you’d be watching while I do it. Oh well – that’s how it goes.”
Multitasking her Vogue interview with getting glammed up reflects just how busy the Finnish artist has been in the lead-up to the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest, where she’s representing Finland. “It feels so great,” she muses. “It was really important for me to win UMK [Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu, Finland’s Eurovision selection], because I really wanted to go to Eurovision, and I’m super excited and proud that I get to represent Finland there.”
When we chat, it’s mere days before Vikman is off to Basel, Switzerland, the host city for this year’s spectacle. While she’s eager to take to the famed stage and perform her firecracker electropop song, ‘Ich komme’, she admits the jitters are slowly kicking in. “I’m feeling nervous in a good way. Nothing too much yet, but just enough,” she says. “Once in a while I just get these bursts of panic, like, ‘Oh my god, it’s almost here.’” Turns out she had little to worry about; she soared through the semi-finals, clinching a spot in tomorrow's grand finale.
