Forget the jewellery rulebook – the best bijoux this season arrives stacked, layered, mixed and matched. From pairing silver with gold and combining statement designs with minimalist forms, Vogue Scandinavia's editors share their favourite way to style Effva Attling's jewellery, as the Swedish brand celebrates its 30th anniversary this year
There are rings we never take off, necklaces we layer without a second thought, and pieces we reach for day after day – jewellery has a way of becoming part of who we are. While each design may carry its own meaning, how we choose to wear it makes it truly personal.
For three decades, Swedish jewellery designer Efva Attling has created pieces with meaning at their heart. From expressions of love and freedom to strength and individuality, her designs embody a philosophy she calls 'Beauty with a thought'. And while many have become modern classics, their appeal lies just as much in how they can be reimagined today. To celebrate Efva Attling's 30 years in jewellery design, we're turning the spotlight on the art of making it your own. Because who says silver and gold shouldn't mingle? Or that delicate chains can't sit alongside sculptural statement pieces? Certainly not us.
Here, Vogue Scandinavia's editors share how they wear their Efva Attling bijoux, pairing iconic designs with new favourites in combinations that reflect their individual styles. From considered minimalism to artful layering, each edit offers a fresh perspective on jewellery that transcends seasons and trends. After all, the best jewellery combinations are the ones that feel entirely, unmistakably you.
Martina Bonnier, Editor in Chief
"I want to congratulate Efva Attling on her anniversary! I still remember the first Homo Sapiens pieces and the incredible success they’ve had over the years. So many memories are connected to her jewellery.
Right now, I’m particularly drawn to colour, especially beautiful green gemstones. I love the idea of wearing statement rings every day, and I often style them in pairs, with matching colours on both hands. The Green Dream ring and Bend Over ring are a perfect combination.
From the latest collection, I absolutely adore the Sparkle of Life necklace, with its beautiful mix of colourful gemstones. It’s such a versatile piece – just as stunning with an evening dress as it is with jeans and a simple T-shirt. It instantly adds that extra touch of colour and personality. The sapphire and pink tourmaline earrings are another favourite.
As the days get darker, I think we all need a little more colour in our lives. My advice? Don’t save your statement jewellery for special occasions – wear it every day and have fun with it.”
Josefin Forsberg, Acting Managing Editor
"I’m a firm believer in finding jewellery that feels distinctly personal. After all, the right bijoux can bring the dullest look to life. As we’re headed into party season, I find myself reaching for thin – almost sheer – long-sleeved, form-fitting tops to bedazzle with a sparkly earring (or two). I love a stacked lobe, especially when you can mix and match more feminine frou-frou with edgier earlobe bric-a-brac. I’ve also become considerably more pro-statement bracelets, but beware: they are best balanced with a chunky ring on the opposite hand."
Linnéa Pesonen, Acting Senior Shopping and Beauty Editor
"I love layering dainty necklaces with chunkier, statement pieces. The Ring Chain Collier, in particular is a favourite as it can be worn in multiple different ways. I’ve also recently started wearing bracelets again, and my go-to is styling pared-back designs with more elaborate, coloured ones. The Bianca cuff and Sparkle of Life bracelet make a perfect, refined but fun stack."
Lisa Hasselgård-Rowe, Culture and Interior Editor
“I’m all about statement earrings, and the Slick & Black earrings look like they'd have a good dangle. I’m also considering getting a fourth ear piercing, so I could double up, mixing them with a more discreet pearl pair. There’s a foolproof elegance to the way a collier sits on the neckline, and the Ring Chain & Stars Collier in white gold is the perfect balance of chunk and sparkle – plus I love that it’s named after an Elvis song. To top it all off, the Clear Dream Ring, with its emerald cut and understated vintage vibes, would be the perfect pairing.”
Isabella Manganas, Junior Shopping and Fashion Coordinator
"Lately, I’ve found myself drawn to mixing metals. When I do, I like to keep my jewellery clean and simple. However, there still needs to be a common thread: if I’m wearing gold earrings, I like to carry that through to my hands, while allowing a bracelet or a second ring to introduce another metal. It makes just enough of a statement."
Eleanor Kittle, Editorial Assistant
"For me, making a statement with jewellery is all about the details rather than mixing metals or colours. By sticking to one metal, in this case silver, I feel much freer to experiment with layering, proportions and different sizes. I love the contrast between the Slick & Black ring, which makes an impact on one hand, while the more delicate Soulmate ring and Chain Reaction bracelet do the talking on the other. And since I always feel a little naked without earrings, a classic silver hoop is a must. The subtle detailing on these makes them feel just that little bit more special. It’s all about finding a balance between statement pieces and understated details.”
Linn Hansson, Social Media Manager
"I've always been a gold girl at heart, but I love mixing gold and silver to create something a little more unexpected. For me, jewellery is what makes an outfit. I like pairing delicate, minimalist pieces with something bold, letting different shapes and textures play off each other. Even the simplest look can feel completely different with the right jewellery. And if I ever leave the house without mine, I honestly feel a little naked."
