Set in a historic marble quarry in Athens, the COS spring/summer 2025 show was an artistic study of draping and structure
Athens is a city of extraordinary construction; the neoclassical architecture, the lyrical sculptures. It therefore served as a fitting – and dramatic – backdrop for COS’ spring/summer '25 collection, which revels in sculptural silhouettes and dramatic draping. Held at the expansive Dionyssomarble Quarry, the historic marble company that produces the very same marble used to build the Parthenon and the Erechtheion on the Acropolis, the show itself was a true Grecian epic, with models descending a dramatic steel staircase and gliding through the massive marble cave. Fittingly, in the star-studded front row sat Adrien Brody, whose character in The Brutalist, László Toth, knows a thing or two about marble quarries.
Alluding to the lyrical lines of a Renaissance painting, fluid fabrics that drape around the body bring to mind the garb worn by Grecian gods. Wafer-thin knits twist and tie in unexpected ways whilst gently oversized soft suits with sloped shoulders offer an easy, breezy take on tailoring. A standout is the Bermuda short, for both men and women, in a relaxed fit – a summer-ready piece that begs to be worn for all occasions. A muted palette of brown and beige, pale pinks and off-whites render those sensual silhouettes the star of the show. The looks are finished with ballet flats, pointed mules and, yes, strap-heavy sandals.
At the centre of the collection is a marbled print – a mirror of the cavernous surroundings – adorning relaxed shirting and gathered mini dresses. Yet, the print is achieved by capturing flower buds, pressed up against a lens. A truly artistic interpretation that, like placing a COS show in a historic marble quarry, bridges the past with the future.
