Cornelia Webb is one of the biggest brand names on Scandinavia's luxury jewellery scene – but the story behind the craft is lesser known. We step into Webb's studio to chat to the designer herself to learn what jewellery represents to her, her signature designs, and about a sentimental jade stone that started it all
Cornelia Webb’s jewellery is more than adornment – it’s a dialogue between craftsmanship, anatomy, and sustainability. Since founding her eponymous brand in 2005, the Stockholm-based designer has been shaping a new vision of luxury, one where beauty is inseparable from responsibility. With a background as a former student of medicine and reiki, she now sculpts metal with a mindful and almost anatomical approach – each curve and contour echoing the human form.
The choice to leave med school and pursue jewellery was prompted by a moment of loss – when she misplaced a jade stone gifted from her late grandmother, with whom she shared a special bond. “That day, I realised what a piece of jewellery can do for us,” Webb says. “How it can connect us to people and places beyond time and space. I decided to drop out of med school and explore jewellery,” she goes on. "I wanted to give people those little objects that they could carry with them, that give strength.”
Webb's fascination with jewellery extends beyond its sentimental powers. She holds a deep-seated belief that jewellery should resonate with the wearer’s body as naturally as a second skin. Guided by Scandinavian minimalism, Webb’s pieces embrace organic asymmetry, raw textures, and fluid silhouettes – reflections of the imperfect beauty found in nature and ourselves.
“I don’t like perfect, we’re not perfect, our skin isn’t perfect,” Webb comments. “Scars on our bodies tell the story that we've been through - and in the same way, scars and marks on a piece of jewellery and can tell the story of that jewellery.”
Her philosophy has resonated globally. Picked up by major stockists and endorsed by celebrities and tastemakers alike, Cornelia Webb has cemented herself as a force in contemporary jewellery. But for Webb, this is not the measure of her success – it is taking part in the transformation of an industry, the shift within the jewellery industry to that does more than decorate. To be produced responsibly, tell a story, honouring both the one that wears it and the hands that craft it. With every sculpted curve and polished edge, Cornelia Webb carves out a new path for modern jewellery: one where sustainability, artistry and meaning exist in perfect harmony.
