Once a humble staple, the silk scarf is now Copenhagen’s must-have accessory – spotted wrapped, knotted and tied every which way during fashion week
If 2024 was the year of the bow, then 2025’s key accessory trend is less Hello Kitty, more Hansel and Gretel. Say hello to the the simple silk scarf, which can currently be seen holding back the hair or wrapped around the waists of vast swathes of Copenhagen’s street-style set.
Whether the multi-tasking piece is knotted primly at the neck, in a nod to Michael Rider’s Celine debut, or worn as a makeshift halter top, or tied low across the hips, Alexa Chung-style, we can’t get enough of this simple styling hack – and it seems the same is true of the Danish fashion pack.

On the runway, silk scarves are being used to evoke a sharper, more androgynous mood – looped at the neck in a preppy, Evelyn Waugh fashion. The Scandi approach is softer: handkerchief-style head ties, floral prints and sun-faded shades. Aside from adding a little Midsommar spirit to an outfit, the scarf also does double duty in changeable weather – as a stylish alternative to an umbrella.
