Chanel transports us to Lake Como’s most storied landmark with a Cruise '26 collection steeped in cinematic call-backs, hotel elegance and sun-drenched ease

Set against the opulence of Villa d’Este, Chanel's Cruise '26 collection unfolds like a sun-drenched postcard from Italy’s most glamorous lakeside retreat. Reverent yet effervescent, the collection captures the decadent serenity of hotel life, distilling the mythic elegance of Lake Como into a wardrobe of modern reverie.

The line-up is suitably suffused with the spirit of an Italian summer escape, with Danish model Ida Heiner setting the tone in the opening look (after being tapped to star in the Sofia Coppola-directed teaser). Pastel-hued taffeta ballgowns in peach, pink and lake blue flounce with flirtatious abandon, while the house’s iconic tweeds are reimagined in warm ochres and sun-glazed yellows that mirror the faded frescoes and golden hours of Villa d’Este.

The mood shifts after sundown. A touch of Studio 54 energy emerges in evening pyjamas and disco-charged suits: one in multicoloured sequinned tweed, another in molten gold lurex damask. A standout comes in the form of a low-cut striped lamé jumpsuit in pink and orange – slinky, unapologetically glamorous, and cape-cloaked. Hints of Visconti’s cinematic opulence flicker throughout: a bustier black mini with an ethereal cape, a voluminous ivory suit, and gowns that feel pulled from a dream sequence. The house leans into its taste for drama without ever losing its characteristic ease – sheer sleeves, featherlight textures, and sculpted silhouettes ground the collection in wearability.

Nature, too, takes a starring role. Lake Como’s lush flora –magnolias, oleanders, wisteria – are translated into delicate lacework, beaded trims and chiffon blossoms, flowering across skirt suits, Spencer jackets and flowing dresses. Cruise classics are also revisited: wide-legged white trousers, sailor stripes, strawberry-hued pea coats and striped knits anchor the collection in the jet-set codes of Chanel’s past.

Accessories play with movie-star fantasy and poolside ease. Pearl strands, silk foulards knotted around wrists and ankles, oversized sunglasses and mules in glossy patent punctuate the looks with playful confidence.
