Birrot – AW25

By Linnéa Pesonen

Copenhagen-based Birrot made a splash with its autumn/winter '25 collection, celebrating its Korean and Danish identity through its first-ever runway show, which transported attendees to a rain-soaked Seoul

Copenhagen might be far from Seoul geographically, but for Birrot, Danish and Korean influences merge seamlessly, forming the core of the brand’s identity. It would make sense then, that the 2018-founded label’s first-ever runway show celebrates this duality, bringing a slice of Seoul to the Danish capital. Entitled ‘Highway’, the autumn/winter ‘25 spectacle whisked show-goers to rain-licked Yeongdong Bridge, where the Birrot woman was caught in a downpour. With dewy faces and tangled tresses, the models strode down the catwalk, staged in Fredericia Furniture’s downtown showroom.

“Birrot for us is about the connection between Denmark and Korea. We grew up in Seoul and were inspired by traditional garments and learned Korean patterns as our foundation. Moving to Copenhagen introduced us to a totally new mindset and reshaped our approach to design,” says Sey Hong, co-founder and creative director of the brand. “Korean garments are inherently about layering, designed to lie flat but come alive on the body, whereas Danish design platforms function and simplicity.”

For AW25 – and all of the brand’s collections, really – Hong and Min Kim, the second half of Birrot, had two very important people on their moodboard: their mothers. “We’re always inspired by old photos of our mums,” Hong says. “The textures, colours, and feelings in those pictures guide us every season.” The brand’s latest line-up builds on the minimalist and refined sensibility that has come to define Birrot, adopting a less-is-more approach where streamlined silhouettes and precise cuts do the talking. Sumptuous, slouchy woven co-ord sets in subdued hues look impossibly cosy yet polished, while the A-line shapes, inspired by traditional Korean hanbok garments, fuse heritage with modern aesthetics.

At the forefront of Birrot’s AW25 offering is the label’s self-developed fabric dubbed ‘Lay’ – crafted of layers of bonded crêpe – appearing on a range of garments, including billowing, gathered trousers, an office-friendly, sleeveless ruched maxi dress and a sharp-shouldered jacket. “Lay allows us to explore the relationship between structure and fluidity,” explains Kim. “It creates garments that adapt to the body and take on new shapes with movement.” With AW25, Birrot continues to prove the sartorial marriage of Denmark and Korea is a true match made in heaven – rain or shine.
