Gowns have been fashioned from all manner of unconventional materials (let us not forget Lady Gaga's meat dress of 2010), but it is not often that one appears so elegant and intricately detailed that it stops us in our tracks. Such was the case with the dress Astrid S wore to Monday's Spellemannprisen, a piece designed and handmade by her stylist, Karen Elieson. Below, we unspool the unconventional details behind the singer-songwriter's exquisite gown

Until this week’s Spellemannprisen ceremony at the Oslo Opera House, stylist Karen Elieson’s design work had centred primarily on sharply tailored suits and select collaborations. For the prestigious event, however, the Norwegian creative set aside her styling kit in favour of a crochet hook, crafting a striking custom gown for Astrid S.

"The idea came to me in March 2025," Elieson explains. After months of exploration and testing, she began the gown in December. "I'm working full time as a stylist, so this became my late-night project."
