All the looks from Louis Vuitton's idyllic Resort '24 collection

By Clare McInerney

Creative director Nicolas Ghesquière transports us to the lush, baroque setting of Isola Bella in Lake Maggiore – his first Louis Vuitton presentation in Italy – for a Resort collection with a mythical mood

Louis Vuitton articulates its Resort '24 offering as one which “gives rise to contemporary tales, populated by drifting creatures that abandon aquatic dwellings for the discovery of terrestrial wonders.” For such an otherworldly and poetic vision, it only made sense the presentation was held in the ornate Italianate gardens of Isola Bella, an idyllic island dotted in the middle of Lake Maggiore, which has been in the possession of the Borromeo family since the 1600s.

That aquatic inspiration translated directly into many of the 50 looks, many of which looked poised for deep sea diving – complete with scuba-ready waterproof neoprene and goggles – or like creatures plucked from the depth, with pleated fins, feathers, gleaming jewels and fluttering swathes of sheer silk, georgette and organza.

Despite its aqua-friendly nature, wet downpours actually forced the presentation indoors (an additional show was staged earlier for the collection's video and images), along with the star-studded front row with the likes of Alicia Vikander, Cate Blanchett and Catherine Deneuve.
