Norwegian influencer and B2B sales manager Alexandra Hoang leads a busy life, balancing international fashion weeks with corporate meetings. Yet there’s one place where these worlds converge: the cherished family home she shares with her husband and their son, a haven for rejuvenation and rest. The couple recently renovated their airy abode, creating a sleek, neutral-toned sanctuary where natural materials and clean lines reign supreme. Below, exclusively for Vogue Scandinavia, Hoang shares her best renovation and interior tips, along with the home decor pieces and stores she’s loving right now

How would you describe your interior style or taste?

I call it 'Japandi', a blend of Scandinavian light and Japanese harmony: calm, minimal, and warm. My travels add another layer: the sophistication of international hotels in the way they balance lighting, textures, and space.

These inspire me, but I don’t want to rely on a trip to experience that sense of calm. I want to look forward to coming home and, ideally, for my home to feel even better than a hotel.

In your opinion, what key pieces should every home have?

Sculptural lighting, like our Nuura pendants and wall lamps, to elevate a space. Flooring is another essential: our BOEN chevron oak runs through every room. And finally, one bespoke element; for us, that’s a Nordiska Kök kitchen with a curved oak island.

Your home was recently renovated – how did the design come together?

The design was a collaboration between my husband and me, with renovation work carried out by a contractor. My husband is very hands-on; he installed the entire Nordiska Kök kitchen, including custom cabinetry and oversaw the technical details, craftsmanship, and contractor dialogue. I focused on supplier coordination and defined the visual expression: from the stone selection for the bench-top to wall colours, furniture, and lighting, ensuring the spaces connect.

What vision guided you through the renovation process?

We wanted a home that reflected the life we aspire to: calm, functional, and elevated. Practical for family routines, but inspiring for my creative work. That meant fewer, more impactful pieces: BOEN chevron oak flooring, a Stonedinavia Brazilian quartzite benchtop, a Quooker boiling water tap, and custom cabinetry to keep appliances hidden. The vision was about balance: 'Japandi' paired with international nuances, resulting in a sophisticated space.

What are your go-to tips for someone looking to instantly elevate their space?

  • Layer lighting with pendants, sconces, and floor lamps.
  • Hang curtains from ceiling to floor to soften light and create height. We chose Nordic Knots.
  • Keep surfaces clutter-free.
  • Add texture through linen, stone, or wool.
  • Go big on art – a large piece can make a small room feel expansive. Ours is by Kristine Hasseløy.

When it comes to renovating, what are your key dos and don’ts?

Do: Invest in elements that set the tone. For us, that meant chevron oak flooring and a bespoke kitchen. Keep storage integrated and hidden.

Don’t: Use open wardrobes or transparent doors. Seeing all your clothes clutters the mind. And don’t underestimate timing. We renovated this apartment in two months during Christmas, which proved a challenge.

Where do you turn for home inspiration?

Travel and fashion. A lobby in Shanghai, an event venue in Paris, or even the lines of a dress at Copenhagen Fashion Week can spark ideas. I’m also inspired by the countless interior references my husband sends me – building is part of our shared love language. And I turn to experts too: the architecture studio House of Creation has an ability to see space in ways I never could.
