A cropped knit and low waist is the combo of choice for street stylers this season

As these street style looks prove, a cropped knit paired with trousers worn low on the hip is the latest 90s revival to reach for

It all started with Miu Miu's skin-bearing spring/summer 2022 season, where cut-off sweaters paired with low-waisted mini skirts started caught the attention of seemingly everyone. However, what had the makings of a short-lived micro trend has kept motivating the masses, carried into the spring/summer 2024 season by power players like Ami and Courrèges before the season has even officially begun.

Street style is one driving force when it comes to the survival of the combination, with tastemakers across the globe sporting cropped knit sand low-waisted bottoms no matter the weather. As proposed by showgoers, the key to pulling off this pairing is finding the right balance between the crop of the top and the cut of the low-waisted bottoms.

Consider the proportions and fit of both pieces to ensure they complement each other. If the cropped top is form-fitting, look to looser low-waisted bottoms to create a harmonious look – such as an oversized men's suit worn with a knitted bralette. Conversely, if the cropped top is more loose and flowy, a snug-fitting pair of low-waisted bottoms can help define the waist and create a streamlined silhouette. Alternatively, a flared or A-line skirt with a low waistline can add a feminine and flirty touch to your look. Just look to the carefree choices of Sydney's style set, where cardigans and vests were worn with sweeping maxi skirts.
